LGBT NEWS: Russia - Gay man dead after being raped with beer bottles and skull smashed

A 23 year old man was found dead on Friday after a horrific attack that left him with a smashed skull. The attack took place in Volgograd, Russia. ‘He was raped with beer bottles and had his skull smashed with a stone,’ Natalia Kunitskaya, a spokeswoman for the Volgograd region branch of the Investigative Committee reported.  

Both the attackers are in their 20s and have both been arrested. This only adds to the increasing level of homophobia in Russia at the moment, following the highly publicised 'Gay Propaganda' bill in Moscow and the Gay Pride organiser who was attacked earlier this year.

LGBT: Young Boy Protests Outside Pro-Gay Marriage Church

Yet another example of children being brainwashed and abused into leading the same hateful, homophobic and damaging lifestyle that their parents lead. The video was first reported here. I give an award for most horrific parent (I'm assuming it's his parent), to the man behind the camera - occasionally encouraging the child to "preach it", and then "back up" when a member of the Church attempts to give him a hug. You can also hear him saying to somebody off camera - "...shame on you ...you wicked old wretch. Shame on you." It absolutely turns my stomach.

"The Bible talks about the homosexuals -- they're worthy of death... They're worthy of death, and you people approve of them! That's why you're going to Hell without Jesus Christ. You can turn from your sin!"

As well as his anti-gay shouts, he tells "all you un-modest women need to put on some clothes next time!" This boy must be no older than 11, and has been stood in front of a Methodist Church in North Carolina, USA preaching hate to the congregation as they leave their Easter service. The Church made headlines recently after announcing it would not conduct any marriage services until it was able to conduct same-sex marriages - and this is what they now face.

LGBT: Muslim Caller Tells TV Host Gays Should Be Beheaded

A caller of American programme The Call left a presenter in shock after telling her that gays should be beheaded.

'Chris' is a Muslim, and believes that Sharia law should be implemented across the US, and he will fight as hard as he can to put this forward. According to Chris, it is the only way that the 'deviant lifestyle' of the gay community will be 'corrected'. After telling Chris that she believes that beheading is extreme, he then went on a tirade of how she is 'anti-Muslim' and 'anti-Islam'.

Simone Edwards, a young lesbian who survives being shot down outside of her home by anti-gay gunmen and must choose between living in hiding with her daughter in Jamaica or traveling alone to seek safety and asylum abroad. Maurice Tomlinson, a human rights activist and lawyer, who experienced an avalanche of death threats when his marriage to a Canadian man is revealed by a Jamaican Newspaper. Does he dare to return to Jamaica to continue his activism?

Why make a documentary about gay Jamaicans? 

Homophobia is a human rights problem, and the struggle for equal treatment of LBGT people is a global human rights issue. 

In Jamaica being gay is a crime, homophobia is the status quo, and violence against the LGBT community is widely approved and accepted. HIV now infects nearly a third of the gay male community, who must live in the shadows or risk their lives. 

Since filming began in 2009, five characters in AN ABOMINABLE CRIME have fled Jamaica after dealing with gunfire, mob violence, and death threats. Today, people like Simone and Maurice must choose between their lives and their homeland -- exile or death. These stories are well worth telling because the impacts of Jamaican homophobia stretch far beyond the Caribbean as refugees like Simone and Maurice seek asylum and safety in the US, Canada, and Europe. 

AN ABOMINABLE CRIME is not just a film about homophobia and violence, it also demonstrates in a deeply personal and intimate manner how courage and love can transcend violence and fear.
